In the debate about the position paper on the redistribution of television revenues, 1. FC Nürnberg and SpVgg Greuther Fürth criticized the approach of the 14 professional clubs involved. When asked why the two Franconian clubs did not participate, Fürth’s managing director Holger Schwiewagner replied in an interview with the “Nürnberger Nachrichten” (Saturday edition): “Because we in the DFL have three elected representatives for the second division who are responsible for us in the Presidium are entitled to vote and will certainly try with their colleagues to define a reasonable distribution of the television money.
In addition, it is also about “a question of style: Do you want to bring this topic to the outside world in a screeching manner in order to build up pressure scenarios – or are you convinced that it is better to discuss it behind closed doors?”
His Nuremberg colleague Niels Rossow said in the double interview: “The product is not the individual club, but the competition that has to remain attractive and negotiable. I therefore find it strange when you try to force a division of the league.” Rossow sees “the possibility of broadening the distribution of media revenues. The position paper was primarily about how the little ones could benefit even more. But that is too short for me.”
FSV Mainz 05, FC Augsburg, Arminia Bielefeld and VfB Stuttgart as well as ten second division clubs were infected with a position paper on a redistribution of TV funds from the 2021/22 season. As a result, the top clubs Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund, RB Leipzig, Borussia Mönchengladbach and Bayer Leverkusen initiated their own meeting. A total of 14 of the 18 Bundesliga clubs and the second division Hamburger SV were invited.
