“Moon Europa” by Nuno Escudeiro concludes the first part of the online series by Filmclub, ZeLIG and BFFB. Part 2 about Valentina Pedicini follows immediately afterwards.

The online series of the film club began with a ZeLIG graduation film from 2019 and this first part of “non molliamo – go on” ends with two ZeLIG graduation films from 2016. Beatrice Segolini’s disturbing “The Good Intentions” can be seen until Wednesday, March 31st, and Nuno Escudeiro’s turn to “Moon Europa” from Thursday, April 1st.
But the arc extends even further. A homage to Valentina Pedicini (1978-2020) continues the online series “non molliamo-weiter geht’s” on April 8th and then leads directly to the BFFB, where further Pedicini films can be seen.
There is also a second direct connection to the BFFB (Bolzano FilmFestival Bozen) via Nuno Escudeiro. His latest film, the highly acclaimed “The Valley”, is screened in the documentary film competition this year. Beatrice Segolini, whose film is currently online, worked in Escudeiros film is, as editor.

Moon Europa
For “Moon Europa” Nuno Escudeiro went all the way north, to Lapland. It’s always dark and cold there in winter anyway. Not exactly inviting. Nevertheless, Escudeiro prefers his film with a special motto: “Here on the moon Europe, this refuge, we are building a new world that we call home”. The people who live there can cope well with the difficult living conditions, although many of them come from far away. Moira is from Greece, Tito from Portugal, Abdullah tries to forget his life in Syria. What brought them here, Nuno wants to know from them and also what holds them in this darkness.
An exciting story, from the pictures and the content. A story that also shows how people can adapt to new circumstances if they only want to. A finding that could also be applied to the challenging Corona period, if someone wanted to.
Talk
In a talk with Bobby Gualtirolo, Nuno Escudeiro tells us that Moon Europa is Jupiter’s largest moon, and he talks about how he came up with the idea of making this film in the first place, how the shooting in Lapland went, and he talks about his current work.
