Numidia is very successful Dear Singers. Thanks to her participation in the program, the singer has now attracted the attention of a large audience. “Now it’s time for me to really do my own thing,” she tells NU.nl.
The 23-year-old singer blew away her fellow candidates Dear Singers with her rendition of the song Arcade. Duncan Laurence, who won the 2019 Eurovision Song Contest with the song, listened in admiration to the bilingual performance of his song.
The video of Numidia singing the original English song in Dutch and Berber has now gone viral on social media.
The singer notices that after her television performance she is recognized by a completely different audience than before. “Now even the cheesemonger recognizes me,” she laughs.

‘Let them talk’
Reactions are also pouring in on social media, but unfortunately they are not always positive. “People always find something to complain about, whether it is my weight or my origins. I am proud of my Dutch and Moroccan roots. I try to find a nice way in between through music.”
Numidia finds it special that people online take the trouble to bully her. “People are just much more daring online than in my face. I call them internet gangsters.”
The singer occasionally reads the comments. “I’ll try to continue as quickly as possible. Let them talk.”
‘There will be a new Numidia’
With the attention of a larger audience, Numidia wants to explore new musical paths. The singer previously scored hits with Meli Melia collaboration with Ali B, and All is well with Boof.
“These collaborations have brought me a lot, but it is not the kind of music that my heart lies in,” says Numidia. She longs for music that touches people more deeply. “Of course my songs were catchy, but they don’t tell anything about me.”
The singer signed a contract with Ali B’s record label in 2018. At the time, she was in a difficult phase of life. She had been removed from her home and was living in a boarding school. She also worked in security.
“Of course I was overjoyed when I got the call from Ali. But now it’s time for me to do my own thing. There will be a new Numidia.” The singer is currently not under contract with a record label.

‘Participating in the Eurovision Song Contest is my fucking dream’
According to Numidia, this new direction also includes new collaborations. “During the day Dear Singers really close friendships arose, especially with Douwe Bob. He already had a good sense of my new direction.”
After the program, the singer even asked if he could write a song for her for a possible participation in the Eurovision Song Contest. “Working with him is fantastic,” says Numidia. “We understand each other well because of our youth. He is often misunderstood. He is one of the purest and sweetest people I know.”
Douwe Bob announced that he also submitted a song, but that he would withdraw from Numidia. “I would never ask this of him. But the fact that he would do this for me touches me deeply,” says the singer.
However, Numidia and Douwe Bob still have to be patient before they hear whether they can go to the Eurovision Song Contest. “Until then, I’m having nightmares. This is my fucking dream and if it doesn’t happen now, I’m going to make sure I get to go another time.”
