Numerous other cities support Tempo 30 project – Baden-Wrttemberg

Augsburg / Ulm (dpa) – The initiative by Augsburg, Ulm, Freiburg and four other major German cities for more Tempo 30 in the municipalities is also being supported in numerous other cities. So far, almost 80 municipalities have expressed their interest in the initiative, and more than 50 cities and municipalities have already joined, reported the German Association of Cities on Thursday in Berlin.

According to the municipal association, Bamberg, Coburg, Eggenfelden, Erlangen, Hof, Kitzingen, Miesbach and Wolfratshausen, among others, have now joined the project in Bavaria. In Baden-Wrttemberg, for example, Biberach, Gppingen, Lrrach, Mannheim and Pforzheim are there.

The cities involved demand that the new federal government change the traffic regulations so that the cities themselves can decide on additional 30 km / h zones. So far, the road traffic regulations for a speed limit of 30 in urban areas are too big, emphasizes the city day.

The first cities to call for more Tempo 30 in the summer were Aachen, Augsburg, Freiburg im Breisgau, Hanover, Leipzig, Mnster and Ulm. You want to test a large Tempo 30 in pilot projects. The usual speed of 50 km / h should only be permitted on a few main roads in the cities. The cities hope that traffic in the towns will be safer, more people-friendly and more environmentally friendly.

The initiative has won support from many cities and municipalities in a very short time, said Leipzig Mayor Thomas Dienberg (Greens), who is responsible for urban development and who is the spokesman for the initiative. Against this background, we assume that our demands will also be the subject of the ongoing coalition negotiations in Berlin.
