Many clinics are increasingly facing financial difficulties due to the Corona crisis. About two thirds fear for their existence, said the Lower Saxony Hospital Society NKG.
According to the NKG, one main reason for this is that the clinics had to postpone many operations and keep beds free for corona patients in the past year. In addition, urgently needed interventions were postponed or canceled because many people avoided hospitalization for fear of Corona. As a result, a considerable part of the income was lost. According to the NKG, only about every tenth clinic expects better figures for 2021.

Hospital society calls for political support
Another problem is that the smaller hospitals with basic emergency care no longer automatically fall under the new Corona rescue umbrella, according to information from NDR 1 Lower Saxony. This provides help especially for specialized clinics with several specialist departments. The NKG chairman, Hans-Heinrich Aldag, is therefore demanding quick help from politicians in order to ensure that the clinics can run economically. Health Minister Jens Spahn (CDU) promised to support the ailing hospitals at the end of December.
