Numerous cases of gastroenteritis reported in an elementary school in Gatineau

The virus period has well and truly begun in the Outaouais region. A school in the Hull sector, in Gatineau, has had to deal with several cases of gastroenteritis over the past week.

Many sick children per class were reported by parents of the Côte-du-Nord school in the Mont-Bleu district, met Friday by Radio-Canada. Families were informed of the situation in a letter sent by the management of the establishment.

Measures to disinfect the premises have been put in place, we can read. Students are also encouraged to wash their hands frequently, it is also written in the document sent to them.

The Portages-de-l’Outaouais School Service Center (CSSPO) confirms that several cases of gastroenteritis have been recorded at this location.

The school transmitted the information to public health, said a spokesperson in an email sent to Radio-Canada.

Concern among parents and children

The CSSPO reminds that it always follows public health recommendations in the event of infectious diseases, including when it is necessary to close a school establishment.

The increase in cases is causing concern among both children attending school and their parents.

It’s disturbing, frankly, when it comes to the health of our children, says Adil Maizi as he goes to pick up his boy Yahya after school ends. The latter maintained that only six students were in his class to finish the week.
