After greeting the few members present, Christina Schlembach, the spokeswoman for the board team, began looking back on 2019, according to a press release from the Weltladen.
The highlight of the year was the celebration of the 15th anniversary of the Weltladen with a benefit concert in October. The Missio Choir with the drum house ensemble from Wrzburg and the Ochsenfurter Sax-Tett offered the numerous guests a concert, the shop team entertained the guests with appetizers and wine from fair trade during the break. The proceeds of 2200 euros went to school projects in Tanzania and Kenya. Schlembach thanked the Catholic parish and the Citizens’ Culture Foundation for their support. As a thank you for the volunteer work, a summer party and a Christmas party were organized for the shop team.
Ulrike Steigerwald then reported on the project and educational work. Various school classes obtained information in the Weltladen and several interactive lectures were held in schools. Several workshops took place chocolate a FAIR tour “and with the course ecological footprint the Weltladen took part in the theme evening So the earth has no future – how then? The Catholic parish and the Bund Naturschutz. The drum group organized an evening Beyond Africa with African poetry, Music and cuisine in the Westentaschenpark.
In autumn 2019, a well-attended multivision show around the world tour to Fairtrade producers, natural wonders and shrines “by Lobolmo” took place in cooperation with the Vhs. An exhibition on fair trade was shown in the city library.
Ulrike Steigerwald is active together with Christina Schlembach in the steering group of the fair trade district and the city of Marktheidenfeld.
Schlembach gave an overview of the business operations. 2019 was the most successful year in its history. With the introduction of new product lines it was possible to increase sales. At several events, coffee and cake or the popular sandwiches were advertised for fair trade products.
The shop team currently consists of 25 voluntary employees who ensured that the shop was open for 308 days. They also took part in many campaigns and events organized by the advertising community. A particular highlight was the fashion show at the beginning of October 2019.
Participation in the umbrella organization’s Weltladen Barometer enabled a comparison with other Weltladen and it was shown that the Marktheidenfeld Weltladen scores very well on many key figures. The team leader attended several regional and national meetings and fairs as well as the general assembly of the Weltladen umbrella organization.
Then cashier Gaby Fiks presented the balance sheet of the shop and gave a cash report on the club accounts. All the figures confirm the positive development of the Weltladen. Renate Michel reported on the cash audit. She praised the orderly cash management and applied for the discharge of the board, which was unanimous. With a final look at the current year, the renovation measures in the world shop were presented and many projects that are pending. In order to reach more younger customers, a campaign was recently started on Instagram. Since one member of the board of directors has ceased his activities, he is urgently looking for reinforcement.
