Number of workers in unemployment insurance increased 6% in May

The number of workers on unemployment insurance increased in May: it increased by 2,554 workers compared to April, reaching a total of 46,501 people, reported the Ministry of Labor and Social Security (MTSS). The previous month they had been 43,947, a figure 6% lower.

In this way, the number of workers in unemployment insurance is once again, after the reduction registered in April, within the average of the last semester: between 46,000 and 48,000 workers.

If the figure is compared with the same month of the previous year, the reduction is almost half: in May 2021 there were more than 80,000 people in unemployment insurance, 52,342 of them in total unemployment insurance and 28,019 in partial unemployment insurance .

In turn, 10,114 received unemployment insurance in the month, almost a thousand more than in April and practically the same amount as in March. “The increase in the number of workers in unemployment insurance in the month of May is fundamentally due to the reduction in the number of workers who left unemployment insurance in that month,” they explained from the Ministry of Labor.

Meanwhile, the number of workers who left unemployment insurance between April and May 2022 was 7,560, while in April it had been 12,943 and in March 9,171. Of the total for May, 39.9% workers left unemployment insurance due to reincorporation and 60.1% due to dismissal.

«Finally, the analysis of the movements of workers in unemployment insurance for May 2022 shows a slight increase in the number of workers in most sectors of activity, highlighting the case of activities linked to the tourist movement, such as real estate activities. , accommodation or food services and, on the other hand, from the manufacturing industry, ”they indicated in the MTSS report.
