Number of positive tests further decreased, last 24 hours 7776 reports | Inland

Between Monday morning and Tuesday morning, the institute received 7,776 reports of positive tests. On Monday there were 8,305. The reports have been decreasing for a number of days. On Friday, 11,127 new cases were reported.

More than 64,087 positive tests have been registered in the past seven days. It is the first time in two months that the weekly figures have fallen. The decrease is five percent. Since the outbreak began in February, nearly 376,000 Dutch people have been tested positive.

“Especially in the last days we saw a lower number of reports. That seems to be an effect of the measures that came into effect at the end of September and mid-October, ”the institute says in an explanation.

Nevertheless, according to the RIVM, the decline is not yet fast enough. The so-called reproduction number, the number that indicates how quickly the coronavirus is spreading among the population, fell slightly to 1.1 last week. The government wants the reproduction number to fall below 1. Then the outbreak slowly fades. “The number of contagious persons remains high,” the institute said. The RIVM also points out that in the age groups over 60 years, no decrease in the number of positively tested people can be seen.

It was also announced that the number of deaths has continued to increase. In the past week, 435 deaths from the coronavirus have been reported. Last week, the institute reported 329 corona deaths and 185 the week before.

The RIVM also announced that 1966 people had been admitted to a hospital ward because of the corona virus, and that 321 people had been admitted to an intensive care unit. A week earlier, there were 1739 and 333 respectively.

Deaths

The number of deaths caused by Covid-19 increased by 113 over the past 24 hours. That does not mean that all of these people have died in the past 24 hours. This information is sometimes passed on to RIVM with some delay. On Monday it was announced that 29 people had recently died from the corona virus.
