Number of positive corona tests in week time increased by more than 40 percent to 19,326 | NOW

The GGDs have 19,326 new positive corona tests since last Tuesday reported at the National Institute for Public Health and the Environment (RIVM). That is 43 percent more than last week (13,471).

Due to the increasing number of infections and overflowing hospitals, the cabinet announced a series of national measures on Monday evening.

The number of positive tests last week is more than five times more than the reports in the last week of August (3,588), the RIVM reports. In total, 206,670 people had themselves tested last week, which is 14,415 more than last week (192,255).

Not only the absolute number of new positive tests will increase, but also the percentage of people who test positive in the test street has increased from 6.1 to 7.4 percent in the past week.

“In recent weeks, we have seen a rapid increase in the number of reports to the GGDs and the percentage of people with a positive test result in the test streets in almost all regions,” says the RIVM.

More people hospitalized

Over the same period, 244 people were admitted to hospitals because of COVID-19. Last week there were 152.

This Tuesday, 33 corona patients would have been admitted to hospitals, the LCPS reports. The number of IC admissions remained unchanged at 142. A total of 693 hospital beds are now occupied by COVID-19 patients.

102 confirmed COVID-19 patients have been reported dead in the past seven days, according to the RIVM. Last week there were 33. As far as is known, 51 patients actually died last week.

The reproduction number has decreased slightly from 1.33 to 1.27. That means that 100 infected people infect 127 others on average.

Virus spreads fastest among young people

“The largest number of people with a positive test result per 100,000 inhabitants can still be found in the age category 20-29 years,” writes the RIVM.

But all age groups from the age of 10 show a “sharp increase” in the number of positive tests, the institute said.

Not everyone can be tested

The patients reported by RIVM were not all tested positive, admitted or died in the past week. Some patients are reported later, the institute emphasizes.

The number of people infected with the COVID-19 virus in the Netherlands is also probably higher than the figures of the institute show, because not everyone is tested.
