Number of overnight stays in August above the pre-coronavirus level

More nights were counted in Bavarian hotels and guesthouses in the public holiday month of August than before the coronavirus pandemic. With around 12.1 million overnight stays, it was around half a million more than in August 2019, as announced on Friday by the Bavarian State Statistical Office. At 4.2 million, the number of guests arriving is still slightly below the comparative value it was three years ago.

The number of overnight stays has been steadily increasing since the beginning of the year: from January to August a total of 61.5 million overnight stays in Bavarian accommodation facilities were counted. The industry has recovered significantly after two years of Corona, Economy Minister Hubert Aiwanger (free voters) said. You can look back on a strong summer in the Free State.

At this high stage, in which many missed events, trade fairs and holidays from the pandemic years are being made up, new obstacles are arising for the industry, said a spokesperson for the Bavarian Association of Hotels and Restaurants. Rising energy and food costs are causing problems for businesses. There are also fears that guests will be reluctant to spend the winter due to the high costs.
