Between January and June 2021, a total of 237,980 new passenger cars were registered in our country. That is almost 9 percent more than in the first half of 2020, when the car sector was hit hard by the corona crisis. Compared to 2019, almost 25 percent fewer new cars were registered.

The used cars continue to be successful. In the first six months of this year, 367,488 used cars were registered, 28 percent more compared to the same period in 2020 and 4 percent more than in 2019.

When the monthly figures are compared, however, we see a different picture. In June 2020, when the garages reopened for a full month after the lockdown, there was a high demand for new cars, motorcycles, used cars and motorcycles. In July 2021, the landscape will look completely different. For example, there are production problems, partly due to chip shortages. They hinder the supply of new cars.

Last month, for example, 16 percent fewer new cars were registered compared to June 2020, and the number of used cars registered was also almost 6 percent lower. “These numbers are worrying for the entire industry. Everyone hopes that the production and supply problems will soon be over, so that registrations can recover to an acceptable level,” said Filip Rylant, Traxio spokesperson.
