In the week from June 30 to July 6, an average of 697 people tested positive for the coronavirus every day. That is an increase of 82 percent compared to a week earlier. This is evident from the data from Sciensano.

In that period, 34 percent more tests were taken, but the positivity rate has also increased, to 1.3 percent.
The number of hospital admissions has also risen again. Between 3 and 9 July, an average of 17.6 people with corona were admitted to Belgian hospitals every day. That is 10 percent more than a week ago.
A total of 240 patients with corona are still in hospital, which is still a decrease of 12 percent. There are 93 covid patients in the intensive care unit (-24 percent).
In the meantime, the number of deaths continues to fall. Between June 30 and July 6, an average of 2.7 people per day died from the effects of Covid-19. That is a 30 percent decrease compared to the previous week. Since the start of the corona pandemic, 25,198 corona patients have already died in Belgium.
Finally, data from Sciensano shows that 7.52 million people have now received at least one shot of a corona vaccine. This corresponds to 65.3 percent of the Belgian population. Also, 4.6 million people, or four in ten Belgians, have already been fully vaccinated.
