The decline in the number of new coronavirus infections continues. In the week of 11 to 17 August, an average of 505.6 infections per day was registered, which is a decrease of 20 percent from a week earlier. This is evident from the data from Sciensano on Friday morning.

The number of deaths continues to increase. An average of 9.9 patients per day died from covid-19 in a week. That’s an 86 percent increase in a week.
From the epidemiological bulletin, which Sciensano puts online every day at 11 am, it appears that between 14 and 20 August 33 people were admitted every day. Between 11 and 17 August this was 32.1 people per day.
On Thursday, 25 more corona patients were hospitalized, but 53 people were also allowed to leave the hospital. A total of 303 people are still in the hospital, 82 of whom are in the intensive care unit.
In total, 80,178 people have already been infected with the corona virus in Belgium. 9,976 people have died from Covid-19, which is seven more than the number reported Thursday.
