Number of new infections climbs over the limit of 1,000 infected …

The average number of new corona infections per day rose to 1,071.1 per day between 9 and 15 September. That is 77 percent more than a week earlier.

This is evident from the preliminary data on the online dashboard of health institute Sciensano on Saturday morning. Since the start of the outbreak, 99,649 people in our country have already tested positive.

The highest number of positive tests from the ‘second wave’ dates back to Monday. The more complete figures meanwhile show that 1,717 positive samples were taken that day. On Tuesday there were 1,411, but that figure may be adjusted upwards in the coming days.

From 9 to 15 September, an average of 2.7 people died every day, an increase of 0.1 percent over the previous seven days. All together, 9,937 patients died in Belgium, which is one more death than was reported on Friday.

The average number of hospital admissions rose by 17.9 percent to 41.6 per day between September 11 and 17. A total of 19,530 people had to be admitted. On September 18, according to Sciensano’s figures, 390 patients were in hospital, 78 of whom were in intensive care.

The number of infections per 100,000 inhabitants exceeds 100 and amounts to 102.2, an increase of 85 percent.
