5475 new corona infections were reported to the RIVM until 10:00 this morning. That is 1,815 more than yesterday. Last week, an average of 2308 positive tests per day were registered. That is 277 percent more than the seven days before.
If new measures are needed due to the rapidly increasing number of infections, the cabinet will announce them tomorrow, outgoing minister De Jonge responds to the figures. “We’re seeing a very rapid increase that doesn’t translate into hospitalizations yet, but it’s going fast.”
Whether measures are necessary depends on the emergency advice of the OMT, the Outbreak Management Team. The cabinet asked for advice on this yesterday. “What we have always intervened for was to protect the vulnerable and not to overload hospitals. Today’s infections are highly prevalent among young people and they do not immediately enter the hospital.”
De Jonge does say that the Netherlands can become a code red country, meaning that Dutch people are no longer welcome in other countries or must meet strict entry conditions. That can affect holidays.
He again advises everyone to get vaccinated. “Either you choose that, or you more or less choose that you will get sick from corona somewhere in the coming months. Protect yourself and protect our freedoms.”
