The total number of infections since the start of the epidemic now stands at 89,691 cases (550 more than reported the day before).
“That is not an evolution that makes us overjoyed. At the same time, it is not dramatically bad, rather within the line of expectations. ” That said infectiologist Erika Vlieghe about this in Terzake. “A number of things have happened in a short time. The schools have opened and there are still a lot of people returning or just returning from vacation. Belgium is not an island. A lot is happening in Europe. Several countries around us are experiencing increases, sometimes even more than in Belgium. ”
“We have to keep a close eye on this. Are there clusters linked to the schools, companies or families? Again the same story as in the summer. We are going to pat the same nail again as in the summer. Reminding everyone’s basic rules: keep your distance, use a mask, don’t have too many close contacts, and so on. Those elements remain incredibly important. ”

Hospital admissions and deaths
An average of 20.7 corona patients were hospitalized. That is an increase of 4.6 percent. A total of 19,188 people have already been admitted in our country for Covid-19 (23 more than the day before).
During the same period, an average of 2.4 people who were infected with the coronavirus also died daily, a decrease of 1.6 percent. This brings the total number of deaths to 9,917 (5 more than reported the day before).
In our country there are currently 58.2 new infections per 100,000 inhabitants (-7 percent).
