Number of infections continues to rise: on average more than 175 per …

The average number of infections in the week to July 17 was 175.1 per day. That’s an increase of 79 percent from a week earlier. It is the fourteenth rise in a row.

This is evident from the figures reported by the scientific institute Sciensano on Tuesday. Yesterday the increase was still 65.7 percent. A total of 64,094 infections have now been detected in our country.

The number of deaths has also increased. An average of 2.9 deaths per day were reported in the week through July 17, representing an 82 percent increase from a week earlier. The number of admissions increased by only 1 percent in the same period, to an average of 10.3 per day.

For the averages, data from the last three days are not counted, because in practice they are often not yet complete. But as a result, the averages lag a bit behind. In all expectations, the number of infections will also increase in the following days and the same can be feared for the number of deaths and admissions.
