HAARLEM The number of corona cases has hardly changed last week, according to the figures published by the RIVM today. 31,959 positive tests have been recorded in the last seven days. In the week before, the National Institute for Public Health and the Environment (RIVM) received 31,984 reports of new corona cases. The number of tests performed increased by about 14 percent last week. The number of hospital admissions fell slightly from 1191 to 1145. The number of deaths also fell slightly, from 309 to 269.
HAARLEM After last week there was a sharp increase in Haarlemmers who tested positive for corona, there has been a slight decrease this week. In Haarlem, a total of 8830 people have been tested positive to date. In the past week, 260 new infected people were added to Haarlem, 27 fewer than the week before. Last week, the number of new infections had increased by 85. A total of 171 Haarlem residents with corona have been admitted to hospital so far, 169 hospital admissions were reported last week. A total of 141 people died from the effects of corona in Haarlem. In the past week, 1 new death was reported in Haarlem related to the virus. (RIVM, total up to and including March 9, 2021).
HEEMSTEDE In Heemstede, a decrease in the number of people who tested positive was already visible last week and that decrease has continued this week. In Heemstede, 1303 people have so far tested positive for the virus. Last week, 21 new infections were reported, 5 fewer than the week before. According to the most recent figures, 22 residents of Heemstede have been hospitalized with corona. For a long time, the number of hospital admissions to Heemsteed was 21 people, but last week another Heemstedenaar with corona was admitted to hospital. 57 residents of Heemsteden died from the consequences of the corona virus. Fortunately, no new corona-related deaths were reported in Heemstede in the past week. (RIVM, total up to and including March 9, 2021)

RURAL The RIVM has seen fewer infections in nursing homes and residential care centers in the past week. “The vaccination is bearing fruit there,” the institute concludes. The number of corona cases is increasing among young people.
The reproduction number, which indicates how quickly the coronavirus is spreading, fell below 1 again. It now stands at 0.98, up from 1.14 a week ago and 1.04 last Friday. The spread rate of the British and South African variants fell sharply. The reproduction number of the British variant went from 1.26 to 1.06, the figure of the South African mutation fell from 1.37 to 1.01. Of those who tested positive three weeks ago, two out of three had the UK variant among the members. That level is reached a little later than expected.
The British variant has so far been diagnosed in 1,279 people in the Netherlands. The South African variant has been found 69 times.
The total number of patients admitted with Covid-19 is currently 1963, reports the National Coordination Center for Patient Distribution (LCPS). 556 of them are in intensive care. There are now 1407 corona patients on the nursing wards.
Since the start of the outbreak, more than 1.1 million people in the Netherlands have been tested positive. 15,917 people have died from the effects of the virus.
