Number of English monkey pox cases more than doubled | Abroad

The first cases of the virus disease in Europe were diagnosed in Great Britain more than two weeks ago. The disease is now spreading steadily. Monkeypox is actually only common in parts of Africa.

The British have now started vaccinating people who are at high risk because they have contact with infected people. After the administration of the first 1,000 doses of Imvanex, more than 3,500 doses are still available, authorities said.

The virus does not usually spread easily between people, but it can be transmitted through close person-to-person contact or through contact with items used by a person who has monkey pox, such as clothing or bedding. Most infected people recover within a few weeks. While the current outbreak is significant and worrying, the risk to the UK population remains low, the public health agency says.
