Number of corona patients in intensive care falls below 700

The number of patients with Covid-19 in intensive care units of Belgian hospitals has fallen below 700 again. This is apparent from data from the health institute Sciensano on Thursday.

In the week from 15 to 22 December, an average of 163.6 corona patients per day were treated Hospitalized in a Belgian hospital. That is a decrease of 36 percent compared to a week earlier.

Currently there are still 2,321 crownpatiënten in hospital (-26%), of whom 693 in the ward intensive care (-14%).

In the same period died per day an average of 35.9 people are affected by Covid-19, a decrease of 20 percent on a weekly basis. The total number of deaths thus rises to 28,067.

The fact that the epidemic is currently waning is also apparent from the reproduction number, which is 0.75.

From December 28, 2020 to December 21, 2021, a total of 20,896,695 doses of a coronavaccin administered. Of the fully vaccinated people, 3,652,380 people received a boosterdosis.
