Number of corona infections in Africa is falling, less than 6 percent vaccinated

(Belga) The number of corona cases in Africa is visibly decreasing, although only 5.5 percent of the population has been vaccinated. According to the African Union Health Organization (Africa CDC), the number of new infections across the continent has fallen by 26 percent to 31,000 cases a day.

Africa CDC today spoke of “a good signal” and said the continent has made “great progress”. The frontrunner in vaccination is Morocco, which has so far vaccinated 57 percent of the inhabitants. “Infection numbers are declining slightly, but steadily,” said John Nkengasong, who warned of a possible backlash. In total, 188 million vaccines have been administered. According to the CDC, 8.5 million corona infections have so far been diagnosed on the continent, of which more than 218,000 have been fatal. According to experts, the number of unreported cases in the continent, with a population of about 1.3 billion, is likely to be much higher. The World Health Organization (WHO) recently stated that almost 86 percent of all corona infections in Africa go undetected and estimates the total number at about 59 million. (Belgium)
