Number of corona cases decreases slightly, British mutation is less likely to occur | Inland

A total of 2010 patients with Covid-19 have now been admitted, 24 fewer than Monday, reports the National Coordination Center for Patient Distribution (LCPS). 550 of these people are in intensive care, an increase of 8 patients. There are now 1,460 corona patients on the nursing wards, 32 fewer than the day before.

The question is whether the decline in admitted Covid patients will continue for a long time to come. On Monday, 54 patients with Covid-19 were added on balance. The LCPS has been warning for weeks that the extra contagious British corona variant is on the rise and as a result the number of corona cases could quickly increase again. “The average number of admissions has fallen in the past week. The occupancy also follows a predominantly downward trend. Whether this will continue is uncertain, due to the British corona variant ”, the center said.

The number of new corona cases continues to decline for the time being. The National Institute for Public Health and the Environment (RIVM) received 24,668 reports of positive tests in the past week, 14 percent less than the week before. The institute does not comment on the extent to which this is due to the closure of test streets due to the winter weather. The GGDs had to cancel about 20,000 appointments on Sunday.

Relatively speaking, it is increasingly the British variant, but that version of the virus is spreading less quickly than before. The so-called reproduction number of the British variant has decreased from 1.28 to 1.13. That means that 100 people with the British variant light an average of 113 others.

‘Corona policy works’

The reproduction number of the old variants fell from 0.86 to 0.80. “The extra measures taken in recent months have paid off,” the RIVM concludes. However, it has already become clear that little is known about the actual effects of the controversial curfew, for example. Rutte also said that this is the first measure that would be taken off the table again, but on Monday it became clear that it will be extended until the beginning of March.

Due to the closure of the test streets on Sunday, and partly on Monday and Tuesday, fewer people were able to get tested for corona. The sites tested just over 195,000 people in the past week, 10.7 percent of whom were found to have the virus among the members. The week before, more than 208,000 tests had been administered and 11.4 percent of them tested positive.

On Monday, the RIVM recorded 2,273 new cases. That number therefore came exclusively from results of corona tests that had been conducted before Sunday. Laboratories were open on Sunday to analyze the samples taken.

The number of new cases did not decrease in every region. The number of positive tests increased in Friesland and in Gooi and Vechtstreek, and the numbers remained more or less the same in North Brabant, North Holland North, Utrecht and Drenthe. The number of positive tests did decrease in all age groups.

The number of hospital admissions and deaths decreased. 408 deaths were reported in the past week, up from 448 the week before. Hospitals admitted 1096 corona patients, 172 of whom in intensive care. A week earlier, it concerned 1278 admissions, 257 of them in intensive care.

RIVM received 85 reports of corona-related deaths. Of all the municipalities, Amsterdam recorded the most positive test results: 99. In Rotterdam there were 52, in Eindhoven 47, in Tilburg 46 and in The Hague 36.

In the Netherlands there are a total of about 14,500 corona-related deaths. The vast majority of them were 75 or older.
