The number of registered infections rose by 925 on Sunday, according to data from the National Institute for Public Health and the Environment (RIVM).
That figure is well beyond last week’s daily average (514). In the past seven days, an average of 664 infections per day were reported.
The data from the RIVM also shows that five new hospital admissions and two new deaths have been reported by the GGDs. This brings the official mortality rate to 6,243. RIVM will issue an explanation of the figures on Tuesday, a spokesperson told NU.nl. The institute does not react to daily contamination figures for the time being.
Not all admissions, deaths, and infections occurred in the past 24 hours. Reports sometimes arrive later at the RIVM. Reports are also introduced with retroactive effect.
The number of daily infections is increasing, especially in South Holland, with 115 new cases in The Hague, 78 in Rotterdam and 24 in Delft. Most new infections were reported in Amsterdam on Sunday (132).
Number of admitted patients remains low
Two COVID patients will be in intensive care on Sunday less than the day before, reports the National Coordination Center for Patient Distribution (LCPS).
The number of COVID patients admitted to hospital outside the ICUs is 105. That is six more than the day before. “The number of COVID patients admitted is low. Almost half of them are located in the regions of Amsterdam and Rotterdam,” says Ernst Kuipers, chairman of the National Network Acute Care (LNAZ).
The occupation as a whole also remains low, says Kuipers. “This is barely rising, despite the peak in COVID patients being five months behind us.”
