The cycle path of the Bredabaan (N1) on the border of Merksem and Schoten will be renewed next week. The works will take place on the section between Horstebaan and Merksemheidelaan in the direction of Brasschaat / Kapellen and will cause traffic problems for a week.

The cycle path of the Bredabaan between the intersections with the Merksemheidelaan and the Horstebaan is worn out and in need of renewal. The current cycle path consists of clinkers and is very uneven mainly at the entrance and exit ramps of the shop car parks. The Roads and Traffic Agency will therefore break up the old bicycle path and replace it with a new, comfortable bicycle path in asphalt.
Traffic disruption for one week, shops always accessible
The works will start on Monday 24 August and will take five working days. During this period, the bicycle and pedestrian path towards Kapellen / Brasschaat will be closed. Cyclists and pedestrians must pass on the other side of the road. The right-hand lane is taken on the road towards Kapellen / Brasschaat. Motorized traffic therefore temporarily passes over one lane.
All shops along the Bredabaan will always be accessible during the works. The shops located at Winkelstap Merksem will remain accessible via Merksemheidelaan. The shops located on the Carrefour Schoten site will remain accessible via the Horstebaan. The entrances and exits to these sites along the Bredabaan side are not accessible.
