Nuestro Cine Mx is born, a platform that replaces FilminLatino

The Mexican Institute of Cinematography, directed by María Novaro, announced the departure, after eight years in Mexico, of FilminLatino; However, the platform is transformed into Nuestro Cine MX, as a new way of seeing Mexican cinema, as well as relating to those who produce and exhibit cinema in this country.

“After eight years of existence of FilminLatino (filminlatino.mx), Nuestro Cine MX (nuestrocine.mx) now arrives. This transformation will make it the space where films and audiences converge; a more consolidated meeting point among those of us who love cinema” reads the statement issued by IMCINE.

It is also highlighted that, with this transformation, the offer of Mexican cinema, as well as collaborations and alliances, will be maintained, in addition to having the possibility of expanding: “In this way, the public will have greater access to cinema made in their own country.” the statement continues.

Meanwhile, Novaro declared to different media outlets that this renewal was necessary, since the model offered by FilminLatino had been exhausted, so the definitive closure had been announced since 2021; However, at the request of users, it was maintained for a few more years and it will be at the beginning of 2024 when it could be back, now under the name Nuestro Cine Mx, and it will be managed completely in this country.

Currently, the platform streaming It has a vast and diverse content of Mexican cinema (feature films and short films), television series and programs, film series, exhibitions and a collection of films for children, to which its more than 400,000 people have access.

For eight years it has represented one of the most important spaces to strengthen the presence of Mexican cinema in our homes.

Until November 2023, 2,176 films were offered (968 feature films and 1,105 short films), of which 1,804 are Mexican titles (630 feature films, 1,072 short films and 102 series); around 83% of the offer in its catalog. In addition, about 70% of the content is free of charge for people.

Its more than 470 thousand registered people (more than 55 thousand subscribed throughout 2023) have access to the programming of national and international festivals, at the same time that they take place. This 2023, events such as the Morelia International Film Festival (FICM), the Monterrey International Film Festival (ficmonterrey), the Barrio Film Festival (FECIBA), among many others, found a space on this platform to bring the Mexican cinema to audiences from all regions of the country.

The platform has also represented an opportunity to create ties and broaden horizons. During 2023, 69 collaborations and alliances were carried out with embassies, government agencies, schools, non-governmental organizations and venues related to the film industry. Such is the case of the short film program in the new Free Textbooks, in alliance with the Ministry of Public Education (SEP), and Cinema on Board, carried out in collaboration with the Trust for the Promotion and Development of Mexican Cinema in the City of Mexico (ProcineCDMX) and the Passenger Transport Network (RTP).
