Actor Sydney Sweeney (25), best known for the controversial youth series ‘Euphoria’, reacted harshly to online hate in a recent interview with GQ magazine.
The young actor’s “Euphoria” character Cassie experiences, among other things, the spread of videos of her naked at school in the first season of the series, which was released in 2019.
Sweeney tells the magazine that the nude photos of the episode in question have been circulated on the internet, even in real life.
– Disgusting and unfair
In the interview, Sweeney explains that people took screenshots of the grainy images and uploaded them to Instagram.
– We got to the point where they labeled my family. My cousins don’t need to see it. It’s terribly disgusting and unfair, Sweeney tells GQ.
Additionally, she says she reacts particularly strongly to the fact that the shared screenshots are from a storyline in which a character experiences the bad feelings associated with being sexualized in school.
– And then the audience does the same, says the “White Lotus” star in the interview.
However, the young actress doesn’t let her excitement stop her when it comes to taking on new roles or stripping down on screen if she feels like it.
– I’m an artist, I play characters. It makes me want to play more characters that piss people off,” Sweeney told the magazine.
It opens on the Trump controversy
This summer was The ‘Euphoria’ star has drawn strong reactions after posting to Instagram a series of photos from her mother’s 60th birthday party featuring guests wearing caps and T-shirts bearing slogans from controversial former US president Donald Trump.
Sweeney grew up in historically conservative Spokane County, Washington, which voted for Trump by a comfortable margin during the 2016 and 2020 presidential elections.
In the GQ interview, she expresses feeling discouraged in the face of the storm that ensued when she shared family photos.
– He’s gotten completely out of control and I feel, frankly, that nothing I say can get him back on track, he says and adds:
– I see people writing “Needs media training”. How come? Do you just want to see a robot? I don’t think you can win, Sweeney concludes.
