A woman named Jade Janks was accused of drugging and strangling her stepfather after she found nude photos of herself on her stepfather’s computer. The case is currently still pending in court.
The body of Thomas Merriman, Jade’s stepfather was found in January 2021 in the house in California, the residence where they lived together. The 39-year-old woman has denied killing her stepfather.
Prosecutors say he died of an overdose of sleeping pills that Jade gave him after finding indecent photos of her on her stepfather’s computer. The photo is even used as a screensaver on your computer.
“This is not an accident. This is a motive for the homicide,” San Diego Deputy District Attorney Jorge Del Portillo said, as quoted by the NY Post.
The photos were taken more than a decade ago by mutual consent by Janks and his girlfriend, authorities said. It’s not clear how Thomas got the photo.
Jade found the photos while she was cleaning the apartment of her stepfather, who was hospitalized at the time. She texted another man asking him to give Thomas some pills.
Jade is suspected of planning the murder via text message. “I really don’t want to be the one to do this,” she read in a text message.
“I’ll hit his head when he wakes up,” another message.
Police said they found Thomas’s body under a pile of boxes, blankets and other trash. Meanwhile, Jade’s attorney has denied that her client killed Thomas. She said Thomas died due to poor health and drugs.
“You will not find any evidence that he was strangled to death,” Jade’s attorney Marc Carlos told the court.
