Nuclear power plants ran at full speed last year: power production at historically high, more than half of which is nuclear energy

At the beginning of each year, Elia, the operator of the Belgian high-voltage grid, lists how much electricity we used in the past year, how much we produced and how we did it.

But maybe first this: our energy consumption largely recovered from the corona dip in 2021. We consumed 84.2 terrawatt hours (TWh) of electricity last year, still somewhat less than in the pre-corona era but more than the 81 TWh of 2020.
