Ñublense, the only Chilean representative to survive in the Conmebol cups, lost. The Red Devils opened their round of 16 series of the Copa Sudamericana with a 1-0 loss against Liga Deportiva Universitaria de Quito, a cast with much more experience in these games. Once again, the chillanejos played as locals at the Ester Roa de Concepción stadium, the same as in the Copa Libertadores and in the playoff series against Audax Italiano. A header from Zalazar and a deflected shot from Campusano were the most dangerous for the Chileans.
Next Thursday, August 10, will be the rematch, at the altitude of Quito. The winner of this tie will go to the quarterfinals against the winner of the key between San Lorenzo and Sao Paulo. Today, in Buenos Aires, the Cyclone beat the Brazilians 1-0.
