Jakarta, CNN Indonesia —
Presidential and vice presidential candidate pair number 1 Anies Baswedan– Muhaimin Iskandar (Cak Imin) received support from the Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) extended family in the 2024 presidential election.
The declaration was read in front of Cak Imin who was present at the Acacia Hotel, Central Jakarta, Sunday (7/1).
“We, the extended Nahdlatul Ulama Family, with sincere and sincere intentions and driven by noble desires, fully support pair number 1 Anies Baswedan and Muhaimin Iskandar as candidates for president and vice president of the Republic of Indonesia,” said IPNU General Chair 2012-2015 Khairul Anam while reading support declaration script.
Khairul Anam admitted that he would instruct the entire NU family throughout Indonesia to win AMIN.
Cak Imin expressed his gratitude for the support. In his speech, Cak Imin said that the support from the NU Big Family was a matter of pride.
“This is extraordinary pride because in the midst of NU privatization you are not allowed to claim to be NU. I have been told back and forth that you are not allowed to claim to be NU. In the midst of people not being allowed to claim to be NU, in the middle of a survey which says AMIN is the lowest, in the middle of pictures- “There aren’t many billboard pictures, but friends are full of confidence and believe that Indonesia is better,” said Cak Imin.
Cak Imin is grateful for the support given by the NU extended family amidst the various obstacles he and Anies experienced.
He said that Anies had difficulty landing the helicopter he was on while campaigning in Tuban, East Java some time ago.
“That day, Mas Anies campaigned in Tuban. It was difficult for the helicopter to land, it wasn’t allowed here, it wasn’t allowed there, it wasn’t allowed to borrow it. Finally, it was in the field furthest from the location,” said Cak Imin.
“The presence of friends, fathers and mothers, all the clerics here shows that it is these brave people who will change the situation in the future,” he continued.
Prohibit NU from taking part in the presidential election
Previously, the General Chairperson of the Nahdlatul Ulama (PBNU) Executive Board, KH Yahya Cholil Staquf, prohibited all parties from carrying the name of NU in the upcoming 2024 presidential election.
Reporting from Antara, Yahya said this appeal was mainly aimed at NU administrators.
“In principle, any support action in the upcoming presidential election must not involve NU, let alone its management. For example, on behalf of NU I support this candidate, that candidate. This is not allowed,” said Yahya, Tuesday (31/10/2023).
However, according to him, PBNU does not prohibit its citizens from providing support to one of the presidential candidate pairs because that is a citizen’s personal right.
“We cannot hinder the rights of individuals to participate, that’s fine. But it cannot be done in the name of NU,” said Yahya.
