The NSDC told who in Ukraine promotes pro-Russian narratives

The list especially mentions the channels associated with the former Minister of Revenue and Duties of Ukraine Alexander Klimenko.

The National Security and Defense Council on Monday, October 25, released scroll Ukrainian Telegram channels that promote “pro-Russian narratives” about the Glossary of Terms on Donbass and Crimea.

“The publication of the Glossary was instantly reacted by telegram channels that are directly related to disinformation activities in favor of the Russian Federation. The main narrative was the humiliation of the national dignity of Ukrainians, especially the Revolution of Dignity, which the channels call a coup,” the message says.

Among these channels:

  • Klymenko Time (53 thousand subscribers) is a media project owned by the former Minister of Revenue and Duties of Ukraine – Oleksandr Klymenko. The project was launched in October 2017. The channel frequently distributed pro-Russian and anti-government publications.

  • Vesti (20 thousand subscribers) – the channel of the Vesti.ua edition, owned by the media holding Multimedia-Invest Group. The head of the holding is the former press secretary and common-law wife of Klimenko Olga Semchenko.

“The first two channels are openly connected with Oleksandr Klimenko. It is not surprising that Klimenko’s personal interests are aimed at undermining the socio-political situation in Ukraine, criticizing the government’s actions and supporting separatist movements. These channels and related media have already been repeatedly noticed in promoting interests pro-Russian leaders, “the NSDC noted.

Also, according to the NSDC, the following Telegram channels were used to disseminate disinformation materials in favor of the Russian Federation:

  • The Whisperer (57 thousand subscribers) is one of the most popular anonymous Telegram channels that write about politics. A characteristic feature is the publication of insiders and unverified information. He actively quotes pro-Kremlin propagandists.

  • First (447 thousand subscribers) is one of the largest Telegram channels, writes about politics in Ukraine. At first glance, it does not stand out among others for its harsh pro-Russian publications. However, the analysis of interaction with other channels indicates that it belongs to the pool of supported RF.

According to the NSDC, these two channels are administered by the user “@A_menejer” (aka @ A_manager2 and @Arhangel). According to the SBU, this person accepts orders from publications of political materials, manages and administers the channel network. The real person behind the administration, known to law enforcement agencies, is currently on the wanted list.

It is noted that in addition to the aforementioned channels, @A_menejer also administers well-known pro-Russian channels: Legitimny, Resident and ZeRada. Another channel that reacted with a repost from Klymenko Time – Novostnoy – is also administered by @A_menejer. Newsnoy (3,800 subscribers) is a plotting channel used to distribute the publications of pro-Kremlin channels.

“In order to make sure that all these channels are interconnected, you just need to familiarize yourself with the statistics available on the open resource tgstats,” the NSDC said.

The NSDC also named the accounts of personal blogs promoting pro-Russian narratives.

“Thus, we can be convinced of the existence and coordinated activities of a large branched network of propaganda resources that work in favor of the interests of the Russian Federation. This network is focused on conducting discrediting disinformation campaigns against Ukraine,” the NSDC noted, adding that the purpose of this activity is to undermine the internal political situation.

Recall last week NSDC has released a glossary of terms about Donbass and Crimea, which is designed to prevent Russia from legitimizing the occupation with the help of its terminology and phrases.
