The Netherlands
The PVV, VVD, NSC and BBB are prepared to continue negotiating about a new Dutch cabinet. According to the public broadcaster, it is likely that there will be an extra-parliamentary government in which NSC also wants to provide ministers.
After informant Kim Putters has presented his final report, next Thursday at the latest, the four parties would continue negotiating the exact details of the extra-parliamentary government.
Pieter Omtzigt’s NSC, which pulled the plug on the formation talks at the beginning of February, is also said to now realize that a right-wing government is the only option and would like to cooperate in an extra-parliamentary cabinet.
Such an extra-parliamentary government does not often occur in the Netherlands. It is formed when a new parliament has not yet been installed, where in normal circumstances a government is formed on the basis of a majority in parliament and that government is accountable to that parliament.
An extra-parliamentary government therefore has no parliamentary basis. The purpose of such a government is to provide temporary rule during periods of political uncertainty until a new parliament is elected and installed.
Also ministers from outside parties?
According to the NOS, the PVV, VVD, NSC and BBB do not want to record everything in a strict coalition agreement, but they want to let parliament decide more about this. Concrete agreements are already being drawn up on topics such as public finances, migration and the international role of the Netherlands.
Moreover, the ministers in the extra-parliamentary government would not only be supplied from the political parties, but could also come from outside.
