NS staff are tired of beggars at Enschede station – De Dagaily Standaard

NS staff are completely fed up with the degeneration of the station in Enschede. Around the beginning of the corona crisis, the city, and in particular the station, full of beggars: drug seekers, drug dealers and homeless people. It has also become really blood irritating.

Travelers are harassed by these beggars, who often circle the ticket machines like a bunch of vultures. “Maybe you have a spare euro?” you suddenly hear behind you. One wants money for food (at least that is what the person claims), the other is fairer and just wants drugs.

The Germans are the most annoying of all. They often arrive in Enschede by train to use drugs, then wander the streets for weeks and come up with the same story every day: ‘I was robbed at the station last night and therefore have nothing at all, no: debit card, mobile, wallet and even no ID. I just missed a few euros for the train back to Hamburg / Berlin / Osnabrück, can you miss something? ‘ Tomorrow, of course, they will be there again and they will not even recognize you from the previous rejection …

It is also striking that most of those beggars are not even really homeless, but have to collect a few euros every day to pay for their shelter for the night. But you will only notice that if you walk around a bit longer, because for the time you really will not be able to distinguish them.

So the problem has been going on for a long time, because for corona it sometimes seemed a real plague. Nothing just happens at all. Probably because the municipality says it runs into all kinds of rules, because that is practically always the argument. In any case, it is really starting to run out. And the fact that NS staff are now ringing the bell is a sign that something really needs to be done quickly.
