NRW: Spending on child and youth welfare increased by 6.1 percent to 14.1 billion euros in 2022

Düsseldorf (IT.NRW). In 2022, the public sector spent around 14.1 billion euros (gross) on child and youth welfare services and tasks in North Rhine-Westphalia. In purely mathematical terms, this corresponds to around 780 euros per resident. As Information and Technology North Rhine-Westphalia reports as the state statistical office, expenditure was 6.1 percent higher than a year before (2021: 13.3 billion euros).

By far the largest part of the expenditure in 2022, at 9.1 billion euros, went into child day care. Of this, 91.6 percent went to day care centers (8.3 billion euros) and 8.4 percent to child day care (765 million euros). Of the expenditure on daycare centers, 0.7 percent was spent on financing after-school care centers or facilities for school children (55 million euros). Converted to the population, the public sector spent around 504 euros (gross) per capita on child day care.

Spending on child day care rose by 6.0 percent in 2022 compared to the previous year (2021: 8.6 billion euros). Spending on after-school care centers and facilities for school children increased the most at +10.8 percent.

The second highest expenditure amount behind child day care in 2022 was around 3.8 billion euros (211 euros per inhabitant) for educational assistance, integration assistance for mentally handicapped children and young people, assistance for young adults and temporary protective measures. Compared to 2021, these expenses increased by 6.3 percent (then: 3.6 billion euros). A further 1.2 billion euros flowed in 2022, for example. B. in youth work and educational child and youth protection.

The expenditure in the area of ​​child and youth welfare was offset by income (e.g. from fees) of around 860 million euros in 2022. This results in net expenditure of 13.2 billion euros; In purely mathematical terms, this corresponds to an amount of 732 euros per person.
