NRW Government Invests 8.2 million euros in Climate-Friendly Aviation Technology

The 8.2 million euros will go to the so-called “Production Launch Center Aviation” (PLCA). This is a platform for developers and producers who are working on technologies for climate-friendly aviation and who want to exchange information better in the future.

Accelerate new developments

The RWTH Aachen Machine Tool Laboratory and the Fraunhofer Institute for Production Technology are among those involved. They want to develop faster, more efficient and more fuel-efficient components for aviation. For example, engines that run on synthetic fuels or hydrogen. Currently, development times are on average 25 years.

NRW Minister for Economic Affairs and Climate Protection

NRW Economics Minister Mona Neubaur hopes that the PLCA will send a signal that original equipment manufacturers and aviation suppliers will decide to settle in the Rhenish area so that new jobs can be created in the region.

1.5 billion euros for future projects

The PLCA is just one of many future projects for structural change in the Rhenish district. The federal and state governments of North Rhine-Westphalia have already approved more than 170 projects with a funding volume of around 1.5 billion euros.

WDR will also report on this topic on the radio on WDR 2 on February 1st, 2024.
