In the past year, the state channel has spent millions to reach a few hundred young people at a time. – It’s about testing and failing and adjusting, says NRK.
NRK’s gaming house, LL35, should reach young viewers, with a live stream of the lives of gamers 24 hours a day.
A year later, neither the viewers nor the technology are in place.
To online newspaper Medier24 tells NRK that the project had around 30-40 users when it was launched, while now they usually have somewhere between 100 and 300 simultaneous viewers on the live stream.
– Is 100-300 good enough, Medier24 asks the state channel.
– Hours of use are the primary goal. There will be natural fluctuations. It’s all about testing and failing and adjusting. This is how it will be for the foreseeable future. That’s why we have hours of use, replies editor-in-chief of the entertainment department at NRK, Eirik Sandberg Ingstad.
The reason for measuring in this way is that the gaming house project is a “community” project, says the editor-in-chief.
He informs Medier24 that the number of usage hours on Twitch is around 50,000, while the channel has had 17,500 (January) and 19,600 (December) usage hours respectively in the last two months.
Most viewers on Twitch
The live stream from the gaming house is broadcast on NRK TV in addition to the live streaming service “Twitch”.
The majority of the viewing figures for the gaming project will come from Twitch, according to editor-in-chief Ingstad.
VG has previously written about the gaming house LL35, where three profiles will live, live and play, while everything is streamed 24 hours a day. The home is 200 square meters and is located on Ljan in the Nordstrand district of Oslo – an architect-designed villa that NRK bought for 16 million last summer.
NRK has even mentioned it the project as “Gaming’s answer to Big Brother”. Last year VG wrote about how the house turned out criticized for filling.
Water damage to the gaming house has cost the state channel over one million. Recently, NRK has been involved in a court case for these water damages to be covered by the seller and the insurance company.
Defends spending
In addition to buying the home for over 16 million, figures Medier24 has been given access to show that NRK has also spent 3.7 million on renovations, and 7.4 million on technology. In addition, they have spent 3.3 million on building a studio, and 1.2 million on repairing water damage.
In total, NRK has therefore spent NOK 32 million on the house.
NRK has previously defended the spending at VG’s residence.
In the building, NRK is testing new technology that they will take with them into new newsrooms in the coming years.
According to Twitchtracker.comfrom which Medier24 also obtained figures, the January results for the gaming project look like this:
- Minutes streamed: 7384
- Average number of viewers: 142
- Max viewers: 362
- Hours set: 17,478
- New followers: 457
