The former NRK journalist passed away on Friday. He turned 70 years old. The family has confirmed the death to Northern Lights.
They inform NRK that Lars Egil Mogård was fully vaccinated.
Mogård retired from NRK this summer. He died at the University Hospital of Northern Norway in Tromsø.
On Facebook, the family writes that they have lost a close husband, a steady father and “Bæss”, a funny father-in-law and a proud grandfather, writes NRK.
Mogård became seriously ill with corona this summer. On October 14, he was hospitalized, and after a few days he was put on a respirator.
Eight years ago, Mogård was diagnosed with chronic lymphocytic leukemia – the most common of the blood cancer diseases with around 250-300 new cases in Norway annually.
Mogård had previously received chemotherapy for this, but still had a poor immune system.
– Mixture of hope and despair
Mogård has over 50 years behind him in the media industry. The 70-year-old has worked for Rana Blad, Nordlys and Helgelands Arbeiderblad, among others. He has also worked for Dagbladet, but is probably best remembered for his 28 years at NRK.
Regional editor of NRK in the north, Nina Einem says that Lars Egil Mogård was a very knowledgeable and held journalist both in and outside the media community.
– He was clear, fearless and accountable, and enjoyed great respect for his professional knowledge, she says to NRK.
She says that he was a natural center with his good mood and many anecdotes from a long and eventful career.
