NRK had to cancel a planned live broadcast from France on Saturday. Just before broadcast, their seconded journalist and photographer were attacked.
NRK’s foreign editor Sigurd Falkenberg Mikkelsen refers to it as an incident of violence.
– Two men attacked them when they were going to go live, and it ended with them stealing the camera and running away, says Mikkelsen to Dagbladet.

The attack took place on the outskirts of Paris. He refers to it as a challenging situation that escalated.
There have been riots in the country for a week after a 17-year-old was shot dead by the police.

The NRK employees are back at work, and NRK has sent a new team to Paris.
– They are safe and returned home as planned after the incident. We take the incident seriously and follow up the team with occupational health services and external consultation, says Mikkelsen.
“American conditions” in France
Didn’t have a safety course
The editor confirms that the reporter had not taken a safety course. He nevertheless emphasizes that the reporter knows Paris well.
– Basically, we send people on safety courses. We believe he had good expertise and was well looked after by an experienced photographer, says Mikkelsen.
The photographer who was with the reporter had taken the course.
Dagbladet has been in contact with the NRK journalist who was in Paris. He refers to foreign affairs editor Mikkelsen.
More dangerous
Mikkelsen says that he sees a growing tendency for journalists to be attacked more often in European countries, during demonstrations and riots.
– It is unacceptable that violence is perpetrated against journalists. Therefore, we have our own security procedures related to this type of reporting. The team in the field followed the routines, but this type of surprise can still occur, says Mikkelsen.
