In addition, TV 2 has acquired the rights to show the European Championship qualifiers and the UEFA Nations League from 2022 to 2028.
– It is a big day for both NRK and TV 2, says broadcasting director Thor Gjermund Eriksen and TV 2 director Olav T. Sandnes.
– Both NRK and TV 2 have a clear ambition to convey the sporting moments that unite Norway, as the major championships do. This is an agreement that ensures the Norwegian people access to top international football on the two largest public broadcasters in Norway, the two top managers elaborate.
– Part of our task
NRK and TV2 already have the rights to the European Football Championship for men in 2021 and the European Championship in women’s football in England in 2022, as well as the World Cup for men in Qatar in 2022.
– It is a tough competition for the most attractive sports rights, and then it is extra gratifying to have such an agreement in port. This agreement ensures that NRK can continue to gather and engage the audience around the biggest football championships for many years to come, says Thor Gjermund Eriksen.
– How important is it for NRK to get such a right?
– It is part of our task to be able to gather people. It is in our mission that we should be able to offer large events. And we know that not everyone is interested in football all the time, but we know that when it comes to the World Cup and the European Championships, almost everyone is interested in it.
