“Now you don’t hear anything anymore”

Horeca entrepreneur Willem Jan Buijs lacks perspective from the cabinet on corona, now that the recess is over. “What I miss are the weekly press conferences. Now you don’t hear anything anymore, ”says Buijs in WNL Opinion makers on NPO Radio 1.

“I don’t know where I stand,” says Buijs. “If the country is in crisis, you have to organize your holiday in a different way. The point is, we still don’t know where we stand. We are now running in a way that each entrepreneur enters at their own discretion. ”

That uncertainty is also because we know so little about the virus, says editor-in-chief of Elsevier Weekblad, Arendo Joustra. “We don’t know more about the virus than about the virus. We pretend it’s gone, but it’s still there. ”

Own responsibility

According to Joustra, we have to take into account that this uncertain situation can last for years. “I hope that we can look back in twenty years, and that we will still not be left with the virus. Suppose there is no vaccine… That is why we should not look to the government, but take our own responsibility, as adult people. A government cannot arrange everything. ”
