Facebook’s messaging service WhatsApp is now launching a new feature that allows users to send pictures and videos that the recipient can only see once, after which they will be deleted from the chat automatically.
The new WhatsApp feature is called “View Once”. Pictures and videos sent using the View Once feature will not be previewed in the chat window. It should be noted, however, that there is nothing to prevent the recipient from screenshoting the sent image or recording the video via the phone’s screen recording function.
WhatsApp also states that photos and videos sent using the View Once feature and then reported will be made available for viewing by WhatsApp moderators. It is further stated that if the message containing the image or video is not opened in two weeks, it will be deleted automatically.
