* Summer 2000: 17-year-old Virginia Giuffre meets Ghislaine Maxwell, partner and ex-boyfriend of Jeffrey Epstein, for the first time while working at a spa owned by Donald Trump in Florida. Maxwell offers her a job as a masseur for Epstein.
* 2000-2002: During this time period, Giuffre travels between Epstein’s estates. Giuffre claims to have been transported around by Epstein to provide sexual services for him and several of his business associates.
* March 2005: Florida police launch an investigation into Epstein after the mother of a 14-year-old girl reported a suspected rape of her daughter.
* 2006: Police charge Epstein with several counts of illegal sexual intercourse with minors.
* 2008: Florida Attorney General Alexander Acosta signs a so-called non-prosecutions agreement, a form of settlement. In the agreement, Epstein pleads guilty to two offenses at the state level, while escaping a number of charges. Both he and his alleged collaborators in the criminal acts were granted immunity from prosecution in southern Florida. The victims were not informed of the settlement, in violation of the law.
* July 22, 2009: Epstein is released after serving 13 months in prison in connection with the settlement. During his imprisonment, he had been allowed to take several trips, including to his private island, in addition to working from his own office several days a week. The special conditions of imprisonment created great public debate.
* 2009: Giuffre sues Epstein and accuses Maxwell of recruiting her into a life where she was sexually abused while a minor. The case ended in a settlement.
* March 2011: Giuffre goes public with his story from the inside of sexual trafficking. The case is published in the Mail on Sunday and includes a picture of Giuffre with Prince Andrew.
* December 2014: In a court document, Giuffre states that she was sent to Prince Andrew at least three times when she was 17 years old in 2001. According to Giuffre, Maxwell asked her to do for Andrew “what you do for Epstein”.
* January 2, 2015: The British Royal Family denies all allegations that Prince Andrew has had “inappropriate treatment of minors”. Andrew refuses to explain himself under oath.
* July 6, 2019: Jeffrey Epstein arrested in New Jersey. He is accused of sexually abusing several dozen underage girls between 2002 and 2005.
* August 10, 2019: Epstein takes his own life in prison. The indictment against him is dropped.
* July 2020: Ghislaine Maxwell is arrested in New Hampshire, charged with three counts of recruiting underage girls for assault.
* August 2021: Giuffre sues Prince Andrew, accusing him of sexual assault. Prince Andrew denies the allegations.
* November 29, 2021: The trial against Maxwell begins in New York. She is accused of helping Jeffrey Epstein recruit and abuse young girls and women. The case of Giuffre is not part of the indictment.
* December 30, 2021: Maxwell is found guilty of five of six charges.
* January 3, 2022: A settlement reached between Giuffre and Epstein in 2009 is announced. It shows that Epstein paid $ 500,000 to Giuffre, who in turn agreed not to sue any of Epstein’s connections that could have been described as a “potential defendant”.
* January 12: A judge in New York rejects a claim by Prince Andrew that Giuffre’s civil lawsuit against him should be rejected, and decides that the case should proceed.
