A new report on the global smartphone market from the research institute Canalys came last week with extremely good news for the Chinese mobile phone manufacturer Xiaomi.

Samsung is still the largest with a market share of 19% in the second quarter of 2021, but Xiaomi has experienced an insanely large growth of 83% compared to the same period in 2020 and can now boast a global market share of 17% followed by Apple, which is in third place with a market share of 14%.
Xiaomi has grown by 50% in the important European market, while growth in continents such as Africa and South America has been respectively. 150% and 300%.
Xiaomi’s global expansion, together with an increased focus on presence in retail sales channels, has been an important driving force to help the company become the second largest manufacturer of smartphones, Xiaomi writes in a press release.
Another Chinese manufacturer, Huawei, has completely disappeared from the global top 5. Fourth and fifth places are now occupied by two other Chinese mobile phone brands, namely Oppo and Vivo.
