The Melange Association invites you to the belated premiere on its YouTube channel on Sunday morning.

The number of infections is falling, the vaccination rate is increasing – this is good news for cultural workers like the members of the Melange Association. A resumption of the face-to-face events is for managing director Dr. At this point in time, Thomas Eicher was still a long way off.

Instead, the online program, with which the club has had better experiences than expected (we reported), will be continued. Tomorrow, Sunday, “Melange” invites you to the belated premiere of the production “Beethoven Boogie Woogie”, which was originally supposed to take place in front of an audience as a contribution to the Beethoven year 2020. May 30th remained the date, the event will now take place exactly one year later and can be seen and heard as a video on YouTube.

About the content: An American in Vienna. The New York writer Diedrich Knickerbocker visited Ludwig van Beethoven in 1822. As a child, he reluctantly took piano lessons. He is enthusiastic about the new music, especially Beethoven’s piano sonatas. The last of these sonatas, op. 111, is a revelation for him. She inspires him to a completely new dance rhythm that ultimately caused a sensation in America.

Igor Stravinsky described the Arietta in the second movement of Beethoven’s Piano Sonata op. 111 as the first boogie woogie in music history. Thomas Eicher and Martin Brödemann take up this hint and spin it further. In their narrative concert they are looking for the European roots of jazz music. With the adventurous life story of the author Knickerbocker, with many legendary melodies from Beethoven’s piano works and its presumed consequences, unusual perspectives on the famous classic, the genius cult and American music open up.

The narrative concert “Beethoven Boogie Woogie” with Thomas Eicher and Martin Brödemann can be seen on YouTube on Sunday, May 30th from 11 a.m. (here it goes directly to the vide). More information on: melange-im-netz.de.
