Now the Frosta women’s court marathon begins – adressa.no

– Those who are protested will explain themselves, even if this will be difficult for many, says aid lawyer Ingunn Kjeldstad to NTB.

Three times a day, the victims will tell their stories in Trøndelag district court in the coming weeks. During the opening speech last week, state attorney Eli Reberg Nessimo explained that almost 5 percent of women in the small town of Trønder had been patients and abused by the big family doctor – popular.

A total of 94 women, who were patients of Arne Bye, will explain themselves.

Defender first

For 25 years, Bye had been a stable health service in the town of Frosta. He was available late and early, giving an impression of genuine concern and care for his patients. When the police started investigating the case two years ago, it became clear that the GP had also filmed several thousand hours of gynecological consultations at the doctor’s office.

– Many have the same surname. There are sisters, daughters, mothers, colleagues, acquaintances and lovers, Nessimo said in the opening speech in Trøndelag district court last Tuesday.

Usually, it is the prosecuting party who explains himself first in the court proceedings in a criminal case. But with 94 women who will tell their story to the court, one defendant was allowed to give an open explanation to the court in which he gave a general description of his background and practice as a doctor in Frosta over 25 years. He also willingly told how he did gynecological examinations, and how he had used several tools that are not usually used in such contexts.

When the complaining parties begin their explanations, Arne Bye must also answer questions related to each individual relationship.

Another idea

When expert experts in the case on Friday shed light on the methods and tools used by Bye, the court received a different opinion on the study than the doctor had told them.

– I think he tortures the woman, said the gynecologist and professor of women’s diseases Mette Haase Moen when she was asked to comment on what she heard Arne Bye tell about his use of hands , fingers and special tools on the patient.

– I think that they got to know the explanation of the experts as support and confirmation of what they themselves experienced, comments of Kjelstad’s lawyer.

The forensic psychiatric experts who assessed the former family doctor concluded that there was nothing wrong with the 55-year-old’s understanding of reality. They said, however, that he had a compulsive behavior pattern and a problem with looking at himself from the outside.

Excited and anxious

For the entire first week, the victims followed the case from a separate courtroom in another area of the courthouse. Up to 60-70 of the women have been present in Stjørdal.

However, many have been unsure about the amount of media attention that has been drawn from the case. After a closed meeting with the media on Friday morning, however, many have settled on their own interpretation in court.

– My clients are both nervous and excited before they have to explain themselves, but several are more relaxed after we had the press conference on Friday, says legal aid lawyer Camilla Hagen to NTB.

A total of 16 weeks were set aside for the case. It will not end until the middle of February and will be brought up for judgment. Until January 17 set aside for the explanations of the parties who are protesting.
