Anyone can practice Pilates; it doesn’t matter your age, sport level or gender. “Pilates is also good for football players, as they often only train short muscles. Cristiano Ronaldo doing pilates almost every day. In Flanders, men are more difficult to believe. They don’t like to take lessons in a group with women,” said Valerie in Het Laatste Nieuws.
Her own son Nono Wauters This is an exception to this, says Valerie. “Nono sometimes comes to take lessons with friends. It’s a lot of fun: he does boxing, runs a lot and does strength training. Any fitness routine, especially when combined with other workouts. I’ve noticed improvements in my overall strength and flexibility since incorporating pilates into my regimen. It’s a different kind of workout, and I really enjoy the discipline it brings.
Hello and welcome to our interview segment! Today, we have two guests with us - Valerie DeBooser, the owner of a newly opened pilates studio, and her son, Nono Wauters. Valerie, can you tell us about the decisions you made five years ago that led to where you are now?
Valerie: Hello! Yes, of course. So about five years ago, I closed down my clothing business and later announced my divorce from my husband, Koen Wauters. It was a tough time, but it’s all part of my journey. I feel like everything happens for a reason, and now I’m opening my own pilates studio. It’s exciting to see where this new path will take me.
Great to hear that, Valerie. Nono, how do you feel about your mom opening her own pilates studio? Did you ever expect this would happen?
Nono: I’m really proud of my mom for following her dreams and opening her own business. Pilates is something that’s really helped me with my fitness journey, so I think it’s great that she’s sharing her passion with others. No, I didn’t expect her to open a pilates studio, but I’m happy she did!
Valerie, you mentioned that anyone can practice pilates regardless of age, sport level, or gender. Can you tell us more about the benefits of pilates for men and how it has become a popular choice among athletes like Cristiano Ronaldo?
Valerie: Absolutely! Men often only train their short muscles and forget about core strength, which is essential for overall fitness. Pilates helps with that. It’s also great for flexibility and reducing the risk of injury. Cristiano Ronaldo is a great example of how even professional athletes benefit from it. He does pilates almost every day. It’s encouraging to see more men taking an interest in pilates in Europe.
That’s fascinating. Nono, as someone who mixes different types of fitness routines, can you tell us about your experience trying pilates and how it’s helped you?
Nono: Pilates is intense! I was surprised by how challenging it is. It really works your core and improves your balance. It’s a great addition to
