Lübeck – That should be in exactly three weeks Lübeck city derby between 1. FC Phönix and VfB. On February 12, both meet for the second leg in the Regional League North. The first comparison ended in October last year with a 2:2 draw at the Lohmühle. The duel could be held there again after the city’s “Buni ban”.
Incidences in the Hanseatic city are increasing
Phoenix Sports Director Frank Salomon announced that they would approach their city rivals. However, the “eagle bearers” no longer have any other option. For too long the venue became a hanging game. The city administration banned the Buniamshof stadium as a venue, also because of possible corona violations by the fans. According to the current state regulation, only a maximum of 500 spectators are allowed in Schleswig-Holstein’s stadiums. This is valid up to and including February 8th. Four days later, the city duel rises. The seven-day incidence is currently 1,071.6 new infections in the Hanseatic city. The hospitalization rate in the northernmost state rose on Saturday (January 22) from 5.87 to 6.29 for 100,000 inhabitants. Relaxation is therefore not to be expected.

VfB board: “We’re a bit surprised”
VfB Lübeck reacted to the city’s decision and to the opponent’s report. CEO Christian Schlichting says: “We are a little surprised that 1. FC Phönix have pushed forward. After a telephone inquiry, we arranged an initial meeting for the coming week and basically signaled that we were available with the Lohmühle. From our point of view, there is nothing more to say about it at the moment.”
Who gets what?
During the conversation between VfB Luebeck and 1. FC Phoenix Luebeck it should primarily be about the costs of using the stadium. At the municipal “Buni”, the Adler are involved with a manageable contribution per home game. The Lohmühle is likely to be much more expensive. Is the city involved? There is also the question of how the ticket contingent would be divided. With a maximum of 500 spectators, there is certainly not much leeway. The Phoenix should have an obligation to their sponsors at home games. “Normal” fans could even get nothing from such a low capacity utilization. The hosts would probably only be guests in a small fraction in their own stadium. It is also questionable whether there would not also be larger crowds around the Lohmühle (as in the 3rd league)? The city administration also prohibited the use of Buniamshof for this reason. For the first leg, the green-whites counted 5,877 spectators in the stadium. Now it’s the clubs turn and they have to come to an agreement. The scheduled home club has a duty to the association to provide a venue – and that is 1. FC Phönix.
