Now or never – PublicoGT

By Fernando Boxes
Guatemalans, tired of hearing complaints without action, decided to go to the polls on June 25 to change the course of the country. The Guatemalans have already decided to change the direction of this country. Tired of so much corruption, ruled by manipulators, liars, clowns, murderers, psychotics, they have decided to change this tragic destiny. A country whose human development indices are as low, or more; than the poorest countries in the world. Guatemala is not a poor country, it is a country impoverished by greed, myopia and impudence of puppet rulers of their real bosses, read: corrupt businessmen, local and international drug traffickers,
indifferent academics and manipulated citizens.

It is not easy to read, let alone understand; what happened this June 25 in the elections for president of Guatemala. In principle, it must be recognized that the Seed Political Movement was the only viable honest option within the great offer for the presidency. Our ruin was assured if we voted for the lying pseudo-right or the populist pseudo-left. The Supreme Electoral Tribunal, TSE, which spent its time deciding who could be an obstacle to the macabre plans of the current power, neglected Bernardo Arévalo, who was placed in the distant eighth position.

The surprise was that the Seed Movement captured enough people to place Semilla in second position and give it the option to participate in a second round, this August 20. This event is as important as the October Revolution of 1944 was, as important as the social movement of 2015, so important that on August 20 our future as a country is decided. We have known the candidate Sandra Torres since she acted as “first lady”, when she usurped the presidential functions. Her excessive desire for power reflects a parasitic, manipulative, calculating personality, willing to negotiate everything for convenience, from her
marriage to participate as a candidate for president until the impunity of her bosses, for when she supposedly reaches the presidency.

Bernardo Arévalo represents, on the other hand; the true nature worthy of the vast majority of Guatemalans: honest, clear, with a vision that is neither extreme left nor extreme right, measured. I know him personally. This is the change we have been fighting for for decades.

To achieve this, we must organize ourselves from the communities, rural or urban, from the neighborhood, the condominium, the block, the neighborhood, the hamlet, the village, the city, the municipality, the department, the country. We do not know how the Corrupt Pact will react to this setback by the TSE. To prevent Arévalo from becoming president, they will invent that he is a communist. To do this, they will reproduce horror stories such as “communists eat people”, as they used to do in the 50s of the last century. They will say that Semilla will eliminate private property and they will strip us of
our assets. Nothing could be further from the truth. The Seed Movement is a serious project, with a consensual, democratic, non-communist, clear, viable government plan, with leadership cadres capable of an honest and efficient government.

The decision is on our side as Guatemalan citizens. It is now or it will never be.
