Marc Brys has signed it. After the remarkable soap opera of the past week, the 61-year-old Antwerp resident will become the new national coach of Cameroon. The official confirmation came on Monday evening.

The decision was made without his knowledge by Sports Minister Narcisse Mouelle Kombi. It led to a fiery row between the football association and the ministry.

Expectations are high. Cameroon won the Africa Cup of Nations in 2017 under the leadership of compatriot Hugo Broos. For Brys, the goal is to lead the country to the next Africa Cup of Nations in 2025 and the World Cup in 2026.
